Halal. Doubtful. Haram. Answered in about three seconds.

Point your phone at any barcode or ingredient label. SahihScan reads every ingredient and E-number on the label, then gives one clear verdict — with a plain-language reason for each ingredient and the certifier behind it.

The vocabulary

Four honest outcomes — not just a yes or a no.

SahihScan names Doubtful as a first-class answer. Certainty you can’t earn is certainty we won’t fake.

Halal

Permitted; sourcing is clear.

Ascorbic acid (E300) — corn-derived, no animal source.

Doubtfulمشبوه

Needs checking; certifiers may split.

Gelatin, unspecified (E441) — species & slaughter not stated.

Haram

Categorically prohibited.

Pork Gelatin — porcine, prohibited regardless of processing.

Unknown — not enough data yet. When an ingredient isn’t in the knowledge base, SahihScan says so plainly instead of guessing.

This is the app in miniature. A real, messy ingredient list — read top to bottom, each item snapped to a verdict, then one overall answer. Tap any ingredient for the reasoning and the certifier behind it.

Halal
Ascorbic acid
Vitamin C · E300

Industrially produced from glucose, typically corn-derived, with no animal source — so it is permissible.

Source: IFANCA · general guidance · KB v7
Doubtful
Gelatin, unspecified
Gelling agent · E441

The label rarely states the species or slaughter method. It may be porcine, non-zabiha bovine, or halal — doubtful until certified.

Source: IFANCA · HMC · general — certifiers split
Haram
Pork Gelatin
Gelling agent · porcine

Gelatin manufactured from pig skin or bones. Anything porcine is categorically prohibited, regardless of processing.

Source: IFANCA · JAKIM · general

SahihScan provides ingredient information, not religious rulings. Formulations change — when in doubt, check with the manufacturer or a qualified scholar.

The knowledge base

The whole library, in the open.

No vague “thousands of products.” A curated, versioned set you can actually count — read as data, not marketing.

Your standard

Tune it to your practice, not someone else’s.

SahihScan respects that halal is not one setting. Flip a preference and watch the same product re-decide.

Why we built SahihScan

Why we built it

“Standing in the aisle, turning a package over, reading a wall of E-numbers you can’t parse — we’ve all felt that pause. SahihScan is the tool we wanted in our own hands: a quick scan that replaces the uncertainty at the shelf with a reason you can read.”

Questions

Before you ask.

Yours. SahihScan defaults to careful, widely-shared positions, then lets you tune it: zabiha-only mode, trace-alcohol strictness, madhhab-tuned rulings, and a personal watchlist. The same product can return a different verdict depending on the standard you set.

No. SahihScan provides ingredient information, not religious rulings. Formulations change — when in doubt, check with the manufacturer or a qualified scholar. Our job is to decode the label and show the reasoning; the ruling is between you and your reference.

Yes — for products you’ve already scanned. Their verdicts are cached on your device, so a repeat check in a shop with no signal still works.

A curated knowledge base of 331 ingredients (KB v7), with per-ingredient reasoning that references published guidance from IFANCA, ISNA Halal, HMC, HFSAA, JAKIM and MUI. We cite these bodies; we don’t claim their endorsement.

Label photos are transient and never stored. Scan history stays on your device unless you sign in to sync. The free tier shows non-personalized ads with no cross-app tracking; Pro removes ads entirely.
